Fujifilm launches Finepix XP170 rugged camera

Fujifilm launches Finepix XP170 rugged camera

Seems to be a good time for rugged cameras. Hot on the heels of Olympus, Fuji has outed their Finepix XP170, a 14 megapixel shooter available in blue and orange.

The XP710 can withstand drops from heights of 6.5 feet, while scoffing off water depths of up to 32 feet. Even freezing temperature of -10 degree Celsius are not enough to impact the performance of the camera.

An impressive feature that Fuji has managed to pack into the XP710 is that the camera can wirelessly transmit photos from the memory card onto an iOS or Android device. All that is required to initiate the transfer successfully is the Fujifilm Photo Receiver app to be installed on the device to which the photos are being transferred.

The back-illuminated 14-megapixel sensor is sensitive up to ISO 3200 and also features a sensor-shift stabilization system. With regards to quality, the FinePix XP170 can record full HD video, even underwater, with sound. Also featuring in the XP170 is the 360° Panoramic Mode that works in both landscape and portrait orientation. All this is made possible thanks to the Fujinon lens that has a 5x optical zoom and an aperture range of f/3.5 – f/8.

The Fuji FinePix XP170 will go on sale for $279.99 in the US. So far, no word on an India launch.
