Often we find ourself in a difficult situation, immersed a hundred feet under the sea, surrounded by wondrous creatures and beautiful sights, and a digital camera that refuses to work anymore. Who’s wise idea was it to have camera’s work ONLY over-water anyway?

Cannon has a solution to appease us all (but maybe not our pockets). The new MDX-PRO 5D Mark II housing. With a cool name like that you can be sure it does something wonderful, and it does. The MDX-PRO 5D Mark II housing “houses” the Cannon 5D Mark II, which is a DSLR camera capable of full HD video capture.

The 5D Mark II is one one of Cannon’s top of the line DSLR’s with a 21.1 megapixel resolution and the capability to record video at full 1080p resolutions. This housing allows people to use the camera as deep as 60 meters under water. Its design allows for operating the camera’s controls through the housing.

The camera itself costs over $2000 putting it firmly in the “no thanks” category for most people, except those looking for REALLY serious photography or shooting full HD video. The MDX-PRO 5D Mark II housing on the other hand will set you back by as much as $3000! Still worth considering for your next vacation at the Mariana trench.
