Good news for Flash and web developers, Powerflasher has released the latest version of thiser commerical FDT IDE. The latest version of FDT brings numerous new features to FDT, but comes with a new freemium model. Instead of three editions of the software (Pure, Plus, and MAX) as available for FDT 4, they now offer only two versions. As we reported before, FDT 5 is now available in a free version, and a premium FDT 5 max for 499€ / 599$.
One of the major new features is support for haXe, an open source programming language. haXe is a language that transcends a single platform, instead code written in haXe can be compiled to JavaScript to run on a browser, or Flash, or PHP code to run on a server, or even C to run native on a system. FDT supports all the targets supported by haXe, and comes with basic templates for Flash, JavaScript and PHP. FDT 5 also comes with support for Mobile development for Android and iOS using Flash.
Since the Adobe Flex SDK is free and open source, and FDT 5 is also available for free, Flash developers now have an additional free option for developing applications.
FlashDevelop, an open source free Flash and haXe development tool has been available from quite a while now, and it too has been gearing up for a new release. FlashDevelop 4 RC1 was released just a month ago.
