The long awaited 'dislike' button on Facebook may finally be coming. The announcement was reportedly made by company CEO Mark Zuckerberg during a public Town Hall Q&A session. During the session he said, "I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it."
Zuckerberg also confirmed that the ‘dislike’ button will not work the way you see "upvoting" and "downvoting" working on Reddit community. He said that not every moment is a good moment and people want to express empathy. The button will let users express their feelings for different situations like the recent refugee crisis or the posts about family members who have died. In such situations, one doesn’t feel comfortable in clicking the ‘Like’ button as it not a good way of expressing feelings. But, he didn’t reveal what the button would be called or how it would work. Zuckerberg first talked about the button at last year’s Town Hall Q&A session. At that time, he said that the company was considering the ‘dislike’ button, but it wasn’t convinced about it. Facebook doesn’t want users to use the button for creating and spreading negativity or to hurt others. As of now, the ‘dislike’ button is available as sticker for the Facebook Messenger app. It can only be used during conversations and not on comments or status updates.
Yesterday, Facebook also released the feature which will enable users to receive the push notification via the Google Chrome browser with no need for the Facebook official app. The feature is not enabled by default, and one needs to login to his account on Chrome to use it. In recent times, the company has rolled out a variety of features to improve the usability of Facebook for users. Earlier, the company launched Facebook Lite in India. The app is designed specifically for 2G networks and spotty connections. Other than this, the company rolled out an update which will let users use the Messenger app even without the need for a Facebook account. The users will have to sign-up using their mobile numbers.
