Facebook has partnered with Unity to create a new platform that will allow developers to port games to the social network

Facebook has announced that it is partnering with Unity to create a new platform for game developers that will allow them to port their Unity-based games to the social network. In a post by Jack King Choi, the Product Manager at Facebook, the company states that the partnership with Unity also includes a new PC gaming platform that is currently under development. The new platform will most likely complete other platforms such as Valve’s Steam and EA’s Origin.

In the post, Choi says that the partnership will allow developers to “deliver their games to the more than 650 million players who enjoy playing Facebook-connected games every month — a massive and highly-engaged gaming community that enabled Facebook to pay out over $2.5 billion to just web-game developers in 2015 alone.”

The company stated that it has started selecting a limited group of developers who will receive access to a closed-alpha build of the export to Facebook functionality in Unity v5.4. Further, it was also noted that new developers would be added on an ongoing basis during the testing period. Developers who are interested have to apply by August 31, 2016 to request access and begin testing the export to Facebook functionality.
