Facebook rolls out new photo viewer; mimics Google+

As most of you would have already noticed it, Facebook has now started to roll out a new photo viewer, in which image appears on the left and everything else on the right. According to reports, the new photo viewer is being pushed out to many of its users across the world. Facebook’s new photo viewer, however, has already started to draw heat, as it is very identical the photo viewer on Google’s social network Google .

Earlier, comments and other information were placed beneath photos, while the ads were shown in the bottom right corner of the viewer. Though the new format makes it easier for users to access the comments, but the ad placement might evoke sharp criticism.

The new photo viewer format comes days after Facebook revealed its plans to roll out ads to its mobile version. The social networking, which recently filed for a $5 billion IPO, now aims to tap mobile users for revenue generation. The ads are likely to start showing up by March.

In spite of sharp criticism, Facebook has brought in several changes in the site of late. The sponsored stories recently started to appear in users’ newsfeeds. The social networking site has already announced that its controversial Timeline profile format will become compulsory for all users.
