Facebook Live, the social network’s popular live streaming format, has now been enabled for laptops and desktop computers as well. Last year, Facebook rolled out the Live Video feature to smartphones across operating systems. Now, creators can broadcast Facebook Live videos utilising in-built cameras on their laptops, desktops. Facebook says it has made this option available on the desktop version of its platform because “desktop or laptop computers provide a stable camera setup that can be beneficial to many types of Facebook Live broadcasts — from Q&As to vlogs to tutorials to any broadcast from someone who isn’t on the move.”
Alternatively, Facebookers can also hook up a good quality webcam to their laptops or desktop PCs to broadcast Live videos on the platform. Users can find the Live Video button on the top right corner of their status window, on the desktop version of Facebook. See image below.
When users are ready to begin their broadcasts, they would need to click on the Live Video button, select their audience, add a description and then begin their live streams. Facebook is slowly raising the stakes when it comes to videos on the social media platform. The company is known to be testing various features to enhance its video offerings and lure creators on to the platform in an aggressive push towards videos.
Recently, Facebook also rolled out a standalone videos app for televisions. Samsung’s Smart TVs will be the first to get the app. Besides Samsung’s television sets, the new videos app is also available on streaming players like Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV. The app also allows users to stream Live Videos from their friends and the ones suggested by Facebook onto their TVs.
