Ex-Apple design head reveals what it was like to work with Steve Jobs

Jony Ive has spent a lot of time at the Apple headquarters. He was the design chief at Apple, previously. Ive also worked with the cofounder Steve Jobs. Today, many years later, he recalls the time spent at the company working with Jobs and how he felt while working with him. Read along to find out what he has to say.

While discussing his story on the “Life in Seven Songs” podcast, he shared how he felt while working at Apple. What creativity went behind the iconic designs of iPhones, iPads, AirPods, and Macbooks?

Jony Ive recalls Steve Jobs

He had joined Apple in 1992 but it was five years later that he met Jobs. Recalling the same, he said, “The time before Steve came back, I learned so much, but at that time of learning, it wasn’t clear I was learning. All it was was painful.” About his interaction with Jobs, he also said, “It’s a feeling I think that we both had, which was just this remarkable click.”

After that, the two collaborated for many years between 1997 and 2011. Ive called this “the most joyful and extraordinary 15 years of my life.” He says that the years spent working with Jobs were a lot better than his initial years at Apple. He adds that he can bring difficult ideas to life effortlessly. During the podcast, he said, “Here was somebody who could almost without thought — and made it appear effortless — to describe really complex feelings and perceptions of ideas and opportunities.”

He even remembers the days when Steve Jobs stepped down as the CEO in the year 2011, and eventually his passing away in 2012. He describes it as a “pretty comprehensive loss.” He said, “I felt I lost somebody who epitomized, embodied a way of thinking about creating, a way of thinking about the importance of culture and people and society.”

Even though he continued at Apple till 2019, he always cherished the time that he spent with Jobs.
