Last night, Elon Musk hosted the We, Robot event in Los Angeles. The event was mainly about Tesla’s upcoming robotics, but Musk surprised the audience with something really unexpected. Elon Musk unveiled a prototype minibus during the event. What’s even more interesting is that this minibus doesn’t need any driver. Sounds very future, right? Well, it’s not the future anymore. The brand is calling this autonomous minibus, the Robovan, which is packed with so many futuristic features. I personally liked the design the most, but it has so much more than its design.
Starting from the design, the Robovan comes with both a very futuristic and weird design. Well, the future can be weird so… From the looks of it, the Robovan looks like a minibus that came straight out of the movie, Tron: Legacy. For those who don’t know about it, it is a movie that features futuristic bikes with LED lights and Light Cycle design. Google it!
Moreover, its design features silver metallic sides with black accents, complemented by strips of light running parallel to the ground along its sides. The doors slide open from the middle, providing easy access. Inside, there are seats as well as space for standing, with tinted windows throughout. Notably, there is no steering wheel, as the Robovan is fully autonomous.
The Robovan will be an electric, autonomous vehicle roughly the size of a bus, which is specifically designed for transporting people in high-density areas. It can carry up to 20 passengers at a time and is also capable of transporting goods, according to Musk.
Musk didn’t disclose the price of the Robovan, how Tesla plans to manufacture it, or when it will be released. However, the vehicle does have a striking design.
