In today’s digital age, the allure of easy money can sometimes lead us down a strange path. A recent incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with online job offers. A 35-year-old Delhi man, who works at a prominent financial institution, fell victim to a job-related online scam that cost him Rs 1.26 lakh.
The victim was initially approached by a woman who presented an attractive part-time job opportunity. Excited about the prospect of earning extra income, he engaged with the job offer, reports The Times Of India. Shortly after, he was contacted by two individuals who provided more details about the job. They added him to a Telegram group where numerous others shared their success stories, claiming they had made significant money through the same job.

Feeling encouraged, the man accepted a task to write positive reviews for well-known hotels. After submitting three reviews, he received payments of Rs 2,000 and then Rs 5,000, which further boosted his confidence in the job. However, the situation took a turn when the fraudsters requested him to deposit more money to continue working. Trusting their claims, he transferred Rs 7,000 on September 1.

As the demands escalated, he paid an additional Rs 28,900 and later Rs 88,900 to various accounts provided by the scammers. Eventually, the victim had some doubts, prompting him to approach the police for help.
This unfortunate incident highlights the importance of vigilance when it comes to online job offers. To protect yourself from falling into similar traps, always verify job listings through official sources and avoid transferring money to unknown individuals. Be cautious of opportunities that promise high returns for little effort.
