Good news for Pixel users. Google has released this month’s Pixel update. The latest December Pixel Drop brings a host of exciting new features to your Pixel devices, including new ways to use Gemini, camera upgrades, and security updates. Keep reading to know what’s new.
Smarter Gemini features
Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, has received some significant updates to make it even more helpful. A new “saved info” feature in Gemini Advanced allows you to customise your interactions. Now, you can ask Gemini to remember things like your dietary preferences or favourite activities. For instance, if you tell Gemini you’re vegetarian, it will suggest vegetarian-friendly recipes in the future without needing reminders. You can also manage this saved info, viewing, editing, or deleting it at any time.

More app integrations
Gemini is now integrated with more apps and services, making it easier to use on your Pixel phone. You can ask Gemini to call contacts, send messages, set alarms, and control your device settings. There’s also a new Spotify extension, allowing you to play music and discover playlists. Gemini can even control your smart home devices like lights, TVs, and ACs, as well as help you explore places on Google Maps by reading reviews or scanning websites.
Enhanced call features
Pixel users will enjoy smarter Call Screen options with Gemini Nano. It now suggests context-based, easy-to-tap responses to unknown callers. For example, if a delivery person calls, you can quickly answer with a simple “Yes” or “No” or ask follow-up questions using pre-set prompts. You can also see live transcripts during the call screening process, so you can decide whether to pick up the call or not.
New camera and photo features
There are also camera improvements in this Pixel Drop. The new Dual Screen Portrait Mode on the Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold makes it easier to take the perfect photo, letting both you and your subject preview the shot before capturing it. Plus, Pixel users can now share Ultra HDR photos directly to Instagram, bringing higher contrast and more detail to your posts.
Smarter organisation and security
The update also improves the way you organise your screenshots, automatically categorizing them and suggesting actions like adding calendar events or directions. Additionally, a new Identity Check feature helps keep your data secure while travelling, requiring face or fingerprint authentication for sensitive changes.
