DataWind to release UbiSlate 3G7 soon with a ‘break-through price’ tag

DataWind promises to release the UbiSlate 3G7 in India as well as the U.S. The official release is expected within next 4-6 weeks.

Earlier we had reported about an unannounced UbiSlate tablet being spotted on the FCC website. Well, DataWind has confirmed to Digit that it has filed a ‘product’ with the FCC that it intends to release in the U.S. and India. DataWind plans to officially release the tablet, dubbed UbiSlate 3G7, in the next four to six weeks.

“At this stage, we cannot confirm a date for release, but expect to announce its release in the next four to six weeks. We’re committed to delivering a break-through price, as we continue to focus on expanding internet penetration in numerous markets globally,” says DataWind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli in a statement.

Earlier, Engadget had spotted the unannounced UbiSlate 3G7 on the FCC website. As per the product info on the FCC listing, the tablet sports a 7-inch display, SIM slot, 2MP rear camera, front camera (megapixels unknown), microSD memory card and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

The tablet features quadband GPRS and tri-band HSPA (2100 / 1900 / 850MHz), making it compatible with AT&T’s “4G” in the US. Other details of the tablet aren’t available yet.

DataWind, company that spearheaded the Aakash project in India, had grabbed the top spot in the Indian tablet market in the first quarter of 2013.

According to Cyber Media Research’s India Quarterly Tablet Market report for Q1 2013, DataWind had 15.3 percent market share followed by Micromax and Apple with 12.3 percent and 11.7 percent share respectively in second and third place.
