First full-fledged cricket widget for the now-ubiquitous and cult device from Apple
ESPN owned Cricinfo, the global cricket website, announced the launch of Cricinfo Mobicast for Apple’s cult handheld device, iPhone. Mobicast is the first full-fledged cricket widget for iPhone.
iPhone users will now have access to Cricinfo’s famous, live, ball-by-ball updates, scorecard, match schedules, news, photos as well as podcasts from experts such as Ian Chappell, Tony Greig and Geoff Boycott. The Mobicast widget will automatically update, eliminating the need for constant web page refreshes and long waits.
Cricinfo offers this service in association with Plusmo, as a free service, (standard data charges applicable, based on the carrier’s rate plan). The Cricinfo Mobicast Widget can be accessed at http://ci.plusmo.com
“The iPhone has already reached iconic status and we are thrilled to offer cricket fans among iPhone users this unique service. In fact, Cricinfo’s Mobicast has already entered the select ‘Staff Picks’ list that chooses the most preferred iPhone applications” says Anil Nair of Cricinfo.
On extending Cricinfo’s reach across platforms and devices, Anil said, “It is important for us to extend our service into as many areas as we can, and be as accessible as possible to a global cricket audience. Our news, scores and features content are now available across all major digital channels and via mobile on all major mobile device platforms.”
“Mobicast on iPhone extends our already successful partnership with Cricinfo” said Raghu Chandrapati, VP of Plusmo. “With a high premium placed on personalized rich mobile content, Cricket is ideally suited for delivery through the mobile medium”, Raghu added. “Cricinfo’s Mobicast service delivers on this promise to die-hard Cricket fans by automatically – and conveniently – pushing latest cricket updates on the move.”
The iPhone Mobicast widget offers a very intuitive experience to the cricket fan. It features a live summary of all the games in progress right upfront and a simple user interface allows users to easily navigate and get one-click access to schedules, breaking news, photos and Podcasts.
Apart from iPhones, Mobicast service is supported on all major mobile device platforms, including off-the-shelf feature phones and smartphones such as Symbian phones, RIM Blackberry devices, Windows Mobile smartphones, Palm Treos and Pocket PC-enabled PDAs.
