Cortana set for November 10 debut in India
HIGHLIGHTS

It will come as part of the Threshold 2 update package for Windows 10, which will also feature improvements to the UI and Edge browser, alongside a new messaging app

Microsoft is reportedly gearing up for the release of the first big update to Windows 10 – Threshold 2 on November 10. It is expected to bundle all the previous updates and a Skype-based messaging app. The update will finally make Cortana available to Indian users.

The Windows 10 Fall Update was initially scheduled to be launched on November 2. However, WinBeta reported that the update will initially be rolled out to insiders before a public release on a later date. If a post by Microsoft support engineer Ashish Sondhi on the company’s community forums is to be believed, the update will be launched next week, on November 10th. Although, Microsoft has not officially confirmed the date. The update will reportedly bring Cortana support in India.

The Threshold 2 update will introduce some minor UI tweaks, a new messaging app, and Edge improvements, besides bug fixes to Windows 10. Microsoft will be introducing an integrated Skype app with messaging, voice and video calling capabilities. New icons have been introduced for some programs, while the Start Menu will support 4 rows of tiles. The update introduces tab preview in Edge along with the ability to sync Favorites and Reading List items. Apart from its India launch, Cortana will also be upgraded with abilities to understand inked notes and send SMS to mobile phones from PC.

However, the oft-requested extensions support for Edge will not be shipping with the Threshold 2 update. In a statement to WinBeta, the company said, “We’re committed to providing customers with a personalized web experience, which is why bringing extensions to Microsoft Edge continues to be a high priority. We’re actively working to develop a secure extension model to make the safest and most reliable browser for our customers, and look forward to sharing more in a future Windows 10 update in 2016.” Microsoft is likely to include the feature in the Redstone update, scheduled for a summer 2016 release.

The Threshold 2 updates are already available to Insiders on the Fast Ring via Windows 10 Build 10576. Microsoft can therefore be expected to announce the final public release soon.
