Code found in OS X El Capitan beta hints at a 4K display for iMac
Reports state that the code of OS X El Capitan beta refers to a 4K display on the upcoming iMac’s 21.5” version.
After Apple announced a number of functionality updates for almost all of its platforms at WWDC 2015, people who have been using the OS X El Capitan beta have unearthed certain codes that may hint to future upgrades for Apple devices. Amid rumours surrounding a future iPhone model without a physical home button, word has now surfaced of a possible 4K display for the iMac in the future.
Reported by 9to5Mac, it is possible that the 21.5-inch version of the iMac will be refreshed with a 4K resolution Retina display. Currently, the 27-inch iMac comes with a 5K Retina display that has a resolution of 5120×2880 pixels, and a cheaper, non-Retina 2K display. The 21.5-inch version includes a non-Retina 1920×1080 pixels resolution display. The new revelation also mentions a new Intel graphics chipset, the Iris Pro 6200, and four new AMD Radeon R9 graphics processors – M380, M390, M395 and M395X.
These new features found in the codes refer to future versions of the iMac, or upgrades over existing ones. While many were disappointed at the lack of customer-directed announcements at this year’s WWDC (except Apple Music, of course), these revelations point to future devices that Apple is probably working on.
Apart from this, traces of a possible Bluetooth Remote control with infrared sensor and multi-touch support with inertia scrolling have also been found. The remote control might also integrate Force Touch, and include audio support for playback or Siri features. This is a completely new device that might be coming up, and form a part of Apple’s revamp of the Apple TV.
