Anthropic has announced the launch of the Claude 3 model family. The Claude 3 family includes three state-of-the-art models in ascending order of capability: Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet and Claude 3 Opus.
Claude Opus and Claude Sonnet are now available to use in claude.ai and the Claude API which is generally available in 159 countries, including India. And, Claude Haiku will be available soon.

For the vast majority of workloads, Sonnet is 2 times faster than Claude 2 and Claude 2.1 with higher levels of intelligence, according to the company. Also, it excels at tasks demanding rapid responses, like knowledge retrieval or sales automation.
Opus is said to deliver similar speeds to Claude 2 and 2.1, but with much higher levels of intelligence.

According to Anthropic, the new Claude 3 family of AI models performs as well as or better than leading/popular models from Google and OpenAI.
Well, to test this claim, I asked Claude and ChatGPT to solve math equations. But, which one does it better? Let’s find out!
Quadratic equation
Prompt– Give me solution for this equation: x^2 – 5x + 6 = 0?
Claude

Trigonometry
Prompt– Given that sin(x) = 0.8 and x is an acute angle in a right triangle, find the values of cos(x) and tan(x).
Claude

Calculus
Prompt– Find the derivative of the function f(x) = 3x^4 – 2x^3 + 5x^2 – 7x + 9.

Verdict
In my opinion, in the showdown between Claude and ChatGPT for solving maths equations, both contenders delivered the same correct answers. However, when it comes to explaining the process of solving the equations, ChatGPT wins.
ChatGPT’s explanations are clear and easy to understand. So, while both are capable of crunching numbers, ChatGPT shines in its ability to make the maths journey a smooth and comprehensible one.
