ChatGPT Search, a feature that was previously available only to paid subscribers, is now being rolled out to all users, including those on the free tier. OpenAI announced the news during its latest “12 Days of OpenAI” livestream, along with some exciting updates that will enhance the search experience, particularly for mobile users.
The ChatGPT search engine first debuted for paid subscribers in October, but now, it’s available to anyone with a ChatGPT account. To access it, all you need is to be logged in, whether you’re using the free or paid version.

One of the key updates for mobile users is a more traditional search engine-like experience. For example, when you search for something like local restaurants or tourist attractions, ChatGPT will now show a list of results complete with images, ratings, and hours of operation. If you click on any of these results, you’ll get more detailed information about the location, and you can even view a map with directions directly within the app.
Another improvement is aimed at making the search process faster. When you’re looking for specific websites, like hotel booking platforms, ChatGPT will now show links to relevant sites first, before offering more detailed information. This change should help you get to the information you need more quickly.

For those who have the paid version, ChatGPT will automatically pull in up-to-date information from the web when you use Advanced Voice Mode. It’s a handy tool that can provide more accurate and timely results when you’re on the go.
In earlier livestreams, OpenAI also released its text-to-image model called Sora, which can generate images from text prompts. For users looking for premium features, there’s also the $200 per month ChatGPT Pro subscription.
