ChatGPT Free users can now generate up to two images per day
HIGHLIGHTS

When OpenAI first integrated DALL-E, its flagship AI image generation tool, into ChatGPT, it was made available for paying users only.

Now, ChatGPT Free users can create up to two images per day with DALL·E 3.

It's important to note that there are other AI tools out there offering free, unlimited image generation.

When OpenAI first integrated DALL-E, its flagship AI image generation tool, into ChatGPT, it was made a premium treat reserved only for paying users. I remember thinking how cool it would be to generate images straight from ChatGPT, but the paywall kept that thrill just out of reach.

Being someone who loves experimenting with AI tools, especially for creating unique images, but also prefers not to break the bank for it, I’m excited to share that OpenAI has now made this feature available to free users. However, there is a catch. You can only generate up to two images per day.

“We’re rolling out the ability for ChatGPT Free users to create up to two images per day with DALL·E 3,” OpenAI announced on X (formerly Twitter). “Just ask ChatGPT to create an image for a slide deck, personalize a card for a friend, or show you what something looks like.”

How to generate images on ChatGPT

Step 1: Go to ChatGPT and start a new chat.

Step 2: Now, write you prompt and start with “generate an image of” or “create an image of”.

Step 3: ChatGPT will then generate an image for you.

Step 4: Download the image.

In my opinion, while this move by OpenAI shows its commitment to making AI capabilities more accessible, it’s important to note that there are other AI tools out there offering free, unlimited image generation. For instance, Meta AI and Copilot are tools I’ve personally used for image generation, and they get the job done without any restrictions. Don’t get me wrong, the fact that OpenAI is opening up DALL-E to free users is a step in the right direction. However, if you’re like me and love to experiment without limits, you might find other alternatives more satisfying. So, while two free images a day is nice, there are other options if you’re looking for something with a bit more flexibility.
