Imagine chatting with your computer and getting answers read back to you, just like a conversation with a friend. That’s the exciting new feature OpenAI has added to ChatGPT’s portfolio. Yes, you read that right! ChatGPT can now speak its responses aloud, making your interactions even more dynamic and accessible. The new feature is called “Read Aloud”.

Open announced the new feature of ChatGPT on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“ChatGPT can now read responses to you. On iOS or Android, tap and hold the message and then tap ‘Read Aloud’. We’ve also started rolling on web – click the ‘Read Aloud’ button below the message,” OpenAI wrote on X.

Last year, OpenAI introduced a voice chat feature for ChatGPT, allowing users to verbally interact with the chatbot instead of typing. However, the new “Read Aloud” feature enables users to have ChatGPT read aloud written responses, enhancing accessibility and convenience for users who prefer auditory communication.

In my opinion, the new “Read Aloud” feature in ChatGPT offers several benefits. It enhances accessibility for users who may have difficulty reading, such as those with visual impairments.

Also, users can multitask or engage in activities that require their hands or attention while still interacting with ChatGPT. They can listen to responses while doing other tasks, making the interaction more seamless and convenient.

Hearing responses spoken aloud can enhance engagement and immersion in the conversation. It adds a new dimension to the interaction, making it feel more dynamic and natural, akin to conversing with a human.

It’s worth noting that ChatGPT will read its answers to you in your preferred voice. Currently, ChatGPT offers users five voice options: Breeze, Sky, Cove, Ember and Juniper. You can select your preferred voice from the speech section found in the settings menu.
