Nikon has finally brought in a DSLR with a touchscreen display that also includes a 24.2MP CMOS sensor and 39-point auto-focus system.
We didn't expect Nikon to make any announcements at CES, so we were surprised when it announced the D5500 DSLR camera. There is no confirmation as to why the company skipped the D5400 but the new DSLR is the first from the company that sports a swivel touchscreen display, something which Canon cameras have had for quite some time now.
The D5500 comes with a 24.2MP CMOS sensor, a 39-point auto focus system, a 5fps burst mode, 25600 ISO, 1920x1080p (60 fps) video recording capability and Wi-Fi connectivity. Nikon has once again ommitted the optical low-pass filter, bringing more sharpness details to the pictures.
Two new Nikkor lenses were also announced including the AF-S DX NIKKOR 55-200mm VR II (f/4.5-5.6), with three different stops of image stabilization and Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology. The second is the AF-S NIKKOR 300mm VR (f/4), claimed to be the worlds's lightest 300mm fixed-focus lens.
The D5500 will be available in early February for Rs. 54,450 for the body or Rs. 59,950 with Nikon's standard DX 18-55mm kit lens.
