CERT-In issues major warning for iPhone, iPad and Mac users: Here’s how to keep your device safe

The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) has issued a high-severity advisory for Apple users. The agency has warned Apple users of multiple vulnerabilities affecting a range of devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, and the Safari browser. The advisory was issued on November 21 and calls for immediate action. Read below to find out if your device is on the list of impacted devices.
Affected Apple software
According to CERT-In, the following software versions are impacted:
• iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 18.1.1 and 17.7.2
• macOS Sequoia versions prior to 15.1.1
• visionOS versions prior to 2.1.1
• Safari versions prior to 18.1.1
Major security issues
The advice highlights two major security issues:
1. Execution Vulnerability (CVE-2024-44308):
This flaw is found in JavaScriptCore, which is used by Safari and other apps. Hackers can exploit it by sending malicious web content. It allows them to run harmful code on your device.
2. Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Vulnerability (CVE-2024-44309):
This issue exists in WebKit, the engine behind Safari and other Apple apps. Attackers can use specially designed web pages to launch XSS attacks. With this attackers can steal your data or compromise your device.

To stay protected, update your Apple devices to the latest versions:
• iPhones and iPads: Install iOS 18.1.1 or iOS 17.7.2.
• Macs: Upgrade to macOS Sequoia 15.1.1.
• Apple Vision devices: Update to visionOS 2.1.1.
• Safari browser: Move to version 18.1.1.
