CDisplayEx 1.6 [Download of the Day]

Updated on 05-May-2014

Are you a comic book fan? Do you read any Japanese Manga? If you are, and if you have, you must surely have encountered files with extensions such as “cbr” or “cbz”, if you never figured out what to do with them, here is the tool for the job.

Both “cbr” and “cbz” are very popular and simple formats for storing comic books. These formats are simple rar and zip files respectively which have supported types of files, and the CDisplayEx application simply decompresses and displays them on-the-fly. Most fan-created and unlicenced manga volumes are available as zip archives, and can be converted into cbz comics as trivially as just renaming them from zip to cbz!

Even if you do not read comics, you can use this application to view images contained in zip files. If you have photos from a trip or event, you can put them toegther in a zip file, rename it to cbz and as long as the files have some kind of sequential numbering, they will load fine in CDisplayEx.

CDisplayEx sports a minimal interface in which the entire window area is given up to the comic / image / document itself. It launches automatically in full-screen mode displaying the opened file.

CDisplayEx supports a wide number of formats, and format combinations. It can read any of the follwing archives: cbr, cbz, cbt, rar, zip, tar, 7z, lzh, arj, cab, tar.gz, and tar.bz2 which could contain any of the following kind of images: jpeg, png, gif, and bmp.

CDisplayEx is a free and open source application. To download it, click here.
