Brazil-Chile football world cup match sets record for being responsible for the most number of tweets per minute about an event.
It’s official, every living person on Earth gives a damn about the ongoing FIFA World Cup. This was underscored when Twitter revealed that 16.4 million tweets were generated by Saturday night’s football match between Brazil and Chile, that made it the most tweeted about match of the World Cup.
The record for the most overall tweets about a sporting event is still held by Super Bowl 48 with 24.9 million tweets but the Brazil-Chile match did beat that event when it came to the most real-time tweets when almost 390,000 TPM (tweets per minute) were sent out when Chilean player Gonzalo Jara missed his penalty kick, beating the previous record by a handy 8,000 TPMs.
The data was released by Twitter through its official Twitter Data handle.
