BlackBerry, Samsung partner to create a “spy-proof” tablet
The tablet itself is a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 with a security improvements like a Secusmart Security card
BlackBerry and Samsung have collaborated to offer a “spy-proof” tablet that will be used by the government agencies in Germany. The tablet is called SecuTABLET and it is based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. It features a Secusmart Security card that is responsible for encrypting the transfer of mobile data as well as the information stored on the device. Further, the tablet is integrated with a software that provides Certificate Management for managing all keys and certifications that is stored in the Secusmart Security Card. Samsung has integrated its Knox mobile security platform on the SecuTABLET. This will be able to separate sensitive information from personal data. The device will also come with BlackBerry Hub which will organise messages, emails, calendar entries, and app notification in one place.
Dr. Christoph Erdmann, Managing Director of Secusmart stated, “With the SecuTABLET, for the first time, we are combining secure software and hardware from multiple manufacturers into a joint solution. Receiving approval from the BSI confirms our resolve to offer solutions that combine maximum security with ease of operation and that are always available on the very latest hardware.”
This isn’t the first time BlackBerry and Samsung have worked together to create a secure tablet. Last year, the two companies and IBM had worked together to create a tablet that was also called the SecuTABLET. The tablet was based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and used IBM’s secure app wrapping technology.
