The new season for Netflix’s Black Mirror will release on June 5 and titles for the episodes along with their descriptors have released. There will be three episodes in this season titled Smithereens, Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too and Striking Vipers. As always the show will present a dark technology driven take on simple everyday incidences.
Smithereens: A cab driver with an agenda becomes the centre of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control. The episode stars Andrew Scott, Damson Idris and Topher Grace.
Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too: A lonely teenager yearns to connect with her favorite pop star — whose charmed existence isn’t quite as rosy it appears. The episode starts Miley Cyrus, Angourie Rice and Madison Davenport.
Striking Vipers: Two estranged college friends reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever. The episode stars Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff and Ludi Lin.
From the descriptions of the episodes it looks likes a simple tale but the series is known to present the dark side of technology in each scenario. Ever since the show first aired it has captivated audiences with its dark take on the technology we take for granted every day and of course showcasing some future tech.
In season 4 of Black Mirror it was hinted that all the episodes are a part of the same universe but that doesn't change the fact that each episode is a story in itself.
In December 2018 Black Mirror launched an interactive episode in the form of Bandersnatch where you, the viewer, had to choose the outcome of the episode by making choices for the protagonist. It wasn’t the first time an interactive story was told and the episode though rich at a conceptual level failed to wow audiences the same way it has done in the past. With the new season featuring 3 one hour long episodes it looks like Black Mirror is going back to the roots that made the show so strong.
Stay tuned as we will bring you our review of the new season soon.
