Peer-to-peer networking company BitTorrent Labs has revealed a new app, named Sync, that lets users sync large files across multiple computers. However, unlike popular cloud storage services like Dropbox, iCloud and SkyDrive, Sync is free to use without any limit on the size or number of files. The app does this without using servers in the cloud and lets users synchronize data across multiple machines where the app has been installed.
According to a BitTorrent Labs blog, the app currently exists as a pre-alpha build and interested users are welcome to take part in the alpha testing process. “Today, BitTorrent Sync is in a pre-Alpha stage. And we’re hoping that users like you can help us build something sick. If you’re comfortable using early, incomplete software, and if you’re committed to helping us figure out a better way to sync, we want to hear from you,” the blog post states.
The sync app is compatible with Windows, MacOS and also NAS drives, with the help of a web-interface. We expect more details to surface soon.
