In the past few years, generative AI has evolved massively and it will only grow. During a recent podcast appearance with Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath, Bill Gates shared his thoughts on how this technology may reshape the future of work. He said that AI will likely replace most human jobs in the future. However, he shared that there are three professions that are likely to remain human-dominated. These professions are: biologists, energy experts, and coders.

Bill Gates feels that these fields are too complex and dynamic to be run in auto-pilot mode. “These are areas that still require human insight, adaptability, and innovation,” he shared. If that’s coming from Bill Gates, it surely holds some value. Since these jobs require precision and in-depth knowledge of the field, the jobs will not be impacted by AI for a while. He also hinted that many other white-collar and blue-collar jobs will eventually be taken over by AI and robotics.

Previously, Gates had said that while AI might replace people in most areas, no one would be interested in watching computers play baseball. He emphasized that AI’s growth could lead to a future where people have the freedom to focus on the activities they value most.

He had previously also predicted what the future could look like in the next 20 years. He said that the traditional capitalist work framework might become outdated. He believes that AI could solve key shortages in sectors like medicine and education, allowing for more flexibility and even shorter work weeks. Gates has previously said AI could help societies move to a 2 or 3-day work week in the next decade.

The growing advancements and pace of AI have raised many concerns among experts but Gates remains optimistic. He said that the coming changes are a net positive for humanity. It will help in creating a world with fewer labour demands and more personal time.
