Bharti Airtel to launch 4G services in Kolkata tomorrow
Airtel is likely to launch Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) services based on 4G technology in Kolkata tomorrow. According to reports, Union minister Kapil Sibal is going to inaugurate the 4G services in the city.
“The company has requested Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal to launch the service. He is expected to be there tomorrow,” TOI quotes a source as saying.
Reports of Airtel launching the 4G services come days after Bharti Airtel CEO Sanjay Kapoor confirmed the company will be bringing 4G services in Kolkata this month. With this, Airtel will become the first telecom operator to offer the latest 4G services in India.
Bharti Airtel has won the 4G license in four circles namely Punjab, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Karnataka. The company has been given 20 MHz of BWA spectrum in 2.3 GHz frequency band, which is supposed to be suitable for 4G. Airtel has roped in China’s ZTE Corp as the network vendor partner for the Kolkata circle. Airtel has already entered a deal with Nokia Siemens Networks for Maharashtra.
