There are an increasing number of scams and spyware apps that can secretly track private messages, photos, phone calls, location, and other data. The ability to track and monitor spouses or partners without their permission has earned it the name “stalkerware.” These apps are usually installed without the user’s knowledge and may disappear from the home screen to avoid detection, making them difficult to spot.

These applications can also exploit built-in features to gain access to the operating system and data, such as calls, messages, and other alerts, which is dangerous. These applications frequently run in the background, causing the device to overheat, perform slower, and consume more data.

How to detect and remove this

If you want to find and remove the stalkerware from your Android device, the users are advised to activate the Google Play Protect. The security features will scan apps for potential threats and help prevent spyware infections.

Next, the users should start scanning the device accessibility settings, notification access and device admin options and see if there are any suspicious applications. The Stalkerware often hides itself under the important names such as Device Health, System Service or any other term to avoid detection.

If you find any unrecognized apps with broad access permissions, disable them immediately and uninstall them to protect your device from surveillance.

How to be safe

It should be noted that attempting to remove threat apps may alert the person who installed them, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Additionally, all users should use a strong screen lock and enable two-factor authentication on their accounts. Keep an eye on the background apps and any suspicious apps. Also, do not install applications from unverified sources, and only download apps from reputable marketplaces.
