Best comic book movies

Updated on 06-Apr-2020

We all love comic book movies. From the MCU to DC’s big-budgeted fare, comic books have taken over our theatres and even TV screens. But, there are a ton of films that you may not have known actually had comic book origins. As comic books started taking the world by storm, Hollywood saw a formula for success and ran with it. This led to a wave of great comic book films that you may not even know of. Well, we’ve compiled a list of some films that are the best comic book films on Amazon.

RED

Red tells the story of a retired hitman who has been scheduled to be wiped off because he knows too much and his subsequent war with his old organisation. The film is based on a graphic novel by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner and sticks to the source material, for the mostpart. The film is wild, funny and has a mean streak a mile wide. Check it out if you’re in the mood for a fun, action-packed thrill ride.

Dredd 3D

When Dredd 3D came out in cinemas, not many folks went to watch it. Blame it on bad marketing or promotion, there was one thing that this movie did extremely well. It accurately captured the spirit and mean-streak of comic books. The story starts off in Mega-City One where Dredd and other Judges patrol the street as future police officers. A drug bust goes wrong and one thing leads to the other and all hell breaks loose. Check it out if you want something different from your usual Marvel offerings.

300

Frank Miller’s epic reimagining of the Battle of Thermopylae was the perfect fodder for one of the best comic book movies ever. The film is a stylised look at the vicious battle which saw 300 Spartans hold the line against an army of Persian invaders. Action-packed, thrilling and buzzing with great ideas, 300 is one of the best comic book movies out there.

Road to Perdition

Little did most people know that the Tom Hanks starer Road to Perdition was actually based on a comic book published by Paradox Press. The film is a faithful retelling of the book. Road to Perdition tells the story of a hitman on the run with his son. There’s danger at every corner and the two must outwit their enemies and stay alive.
