ASUS launches ROG Maximus XI Apex motherboard
The ROG Maximus XI Apex is aimed at professional overclockers and is based on the newly released Intel Z390 Chipset for 9th Gen Intel desktop processors
ASUS unveiled the latest in the ROG Maximus line of overclocking motherboards, the ROG Maximus XI Apex for the Intel Z390 platform at the Incredible Intelligence launch event. Intel launched their 9th Gen Core i-series of processors earlier this month with the top SKU being the Core i9-9900K unlocked processor with 8 Cores / 16 Threads. The ASUS Maximus XI Apex will be available globally today onwards. We are yet to obtain Indian availability and pricing.
With this launch, ASUS expands its Z390 portfolio to include 9 motherboards including the ROG Maximus XI Hero (Wi-Fi), ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming, ROG Strix Z390-I Gaming, ROG Strix Z390-H Gaming, ROG Maximus XI Code, ROG Maximus XI Extreme and ROG Maximus XI Formula.

ASUS ROG Maximus XI Apex
The Maximus Apex boards have been known for their focus on being overclocker friendly. Key features that make the ROG Maximus XI Apex more appealing to overclockers include the one DIMM per channel setup that ensures maximum stability since using two DIMMs has often caused issues with tight RAM timings. Another key aspect is the DIMM.2 slot that these boards feature. Using the included add-in card, one can install two additional M.2 modules on the Maximus XI Apex board to make use of the extra bandwidth provided by the PCIe 3.0 x8 link. The inclusion of just two RAM DIMM slots also helps improve the routing of the traces on the motherboard. ASUS claims that the board can support memory speeds of 4800 MHz and above. Also, each slot can equip 32 GB DIMMs should they ever be made, thus, bringing the total RAM capacity to 64 GB.
The Z390 chipset enables native USB 3.1 Gen2 and WLAN capabilities. The ROG Maximus XI Apex makes good use of these features. For the WLAN it uses an Intel Wireless-AC 9560 component RF module.
Coming to the other features that are more overclocker centric, there’s Extreme Digi+ VRM which allows real-time control over voltage droop, switching frequency and other power efficiency settings on the motherboard to enable stabler overclocks. The top right corner of the motherboard has an array of probe pads that allow you to monitor voltage and current levels externally and in real-time.
The ROG Maximus XI Apex supports 2-way SLI and 3-way CrossFireX, and includes ASUS Aura Sync RGB.
