HIGHLIGHTS

Asus has gone all out to showcase an extensive array of gadgets at IFA 2015 including the ZenWatch 2, a new AIO, a water-cooled gaming laptop and a PC-on-stick

At IFA 2015 in Berlin, Asus took the stage to announce a bunch of gadgets, ranging from a smartwatch, a water-cooled laptop and a PC-on-a-stick. Here's looking at the extensive list of newly launched products, kicking things off with the smartwatch.

ZenWatch 2

First unveiled at Computex 2015, we finally have details about the Asus ZenWatch 2. Starting with the specifications, the ZenWatch 2 will be available in two screen sizes – 1.63-inch and 1.45-inch. The two models have a display resolution of 320×320 pixels and 280×280 pixels respectively. The smartwatches feature a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and will be available in a number of colour options.

The 1.63-inch Asus ZenWatch 2 comes with a 22mm strap and 49mm stainless steel case, whereas the 1.45-inch variant comes with an 18mm strap and 45mm stainless steel case. 300mAh and 400mAh batteries power the two variants respectively.

Both the variants are IP67 water resistant. Under the hood, a Qualcomm's APQ 8026 SoC with four 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 cores power the devices. It also houses 4GB built-in NAD storage coupled with 512MB of RAM.

The ZenWatch 2 will start selling in October in Europe. The larger variant is priced at EUR 149 (Rs. 11,150 approx.), and the smaller one at EUR 169 (Rs. 12,700 approx.).

ROG GX700 laptop

Asus has also announced the launch of the ROG GX700. The company claims that it is the world’s first water-cooled gaming laptop, which delivers "stable, super-fast performance". The GX700 features the new ROG color scheme with Armor Titanium and Plasma Copper accents.

A 6th-generation Intel K-SKU processor coupled with an NVIDIA graphics card powers the laptop. The laptop has a 17-inch 4K display. The specifications of the laptop weren’t revealed, but as you can see in the image, the laptop isn’t really portable with a big radiator sticking out of its rear end.

ROG G752 laptop

Flaunting another gaming laptop, Asus has revealed specifications of the successor to the ROG G751. Conveniently called the ROG G752, the laptop has a 17-inch display and is powered by a sixth-generation Intel processor and Nvidia GTZ 900M series graphics card. It features a backlit anti-ghosting 30-key rollover keyboard.

Speaking at IFA Berlin 2015, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of OEM Division Nick Parker said, “We are excited by the innovation that ASUS is delivering to enable new gaming experiences for consumers. The ASUS ROG G752 is built from the ground up to take advantage of new PC and online gaming enabled by Windows 10.”

The laptop is priced at $1499 (Rs. 1 lac approx.)

VivoStick

If you thought Intel’s Compute Stick was the only HDMI dongle Windows PC, think again. Asus has announced the launch of the VivoStick at IFA 2015.

The VivoStick is a USB dongle-shaped pocket computer. The device supports Windows 10 and is powered by Intel's 14nm Cherry Trail processor, and 2GB of RAM. It houses a 32GB built-in flash storage module. In terms of connectivity options, it has one USB 3.0 port, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11n. Priced at $129 (Rs. 8,500 approx.), the device looks attractive. There is no information about the launch of the VivoStick.

Zen AiO S series

ASUS also announced the launch of the AIO S series. The two models showcased were the Zen AiO S Z240IC and the Zen AiO S Z220IC. The AiOs have a screen size of 23.8-inches and the 21.5-inches respectively.

Coming to the specifications of the AiO, they are powered by 6th generation Intel Core i processors coupled with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics cards with up to 4GB of video memory. Other specifications include USB 3.1, Gen 2 Type-C port, up to PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 SSD storage, and Intel RealSense camera. For audio, the AiOs have the ASUS SonicMaster sound system.

There is also a variant of the Zen AiO S with some pretty impressive specifications including an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM. The AiO can house up to 512GB of SSD storage, and can go all the way up to 32GB of RAM.

Asus RT-AC5300U router

If you were planning to upgrade your router to a premium state-of-the-art router, we say, hold your horses! At IFA Berlin 2015, Asus has announced the RT-AC5300U, and it looks killer. The router will be available in Q4 2015. Unfortunately, there is no information on the pricing, yet.

The RT-AC5300 is a tri-band router, operating on three Wi-Fi bands –  one on the 2.4GHz band along with two 5GHz bands. Specifications-wise, the 2.4GHz band has a top Wi-Fi speed of up to 1000Mbps, and the 5GHz, has a top speed of 2167Mbps. Of course, these are theoretical speeds. How the router performs in the real world is something we will comment on only when we get our hands on it.

Asus has showcased a lot of interesting products, and we are happy that there are no new ZenFone 2s added to their product arsenal for now.
