Apple is reportedly planning to unveil the much-rumoured 21.5-inch 4K iMac, next week. The new iMac is expected to feature a display of 4096x2304px resolution, at a pixel density of about 218ppi. The report further suggests that the new iMac will be available in stores from as early as October 13.
Rumours of the new iMac coming with a 4K display had first emerged in June earlier this year. At that time, sources stated a code found in the beta version of OS X El Capitan. The code further hinted towards five new graphic processors. One of them was the Intel Iris Pro 6200, and the other four were from AMD – the Radeon R9 M380, M390, M395, and M395X. Last month, there was also a report of the 4K iMac's production being in progress. Shipments for the same were expected to be around 1.5 million units. Apple’s new iMac is expected to be same in terms of outer appearance, with only an overhaul of specifications.
If the rumours come out to be true, it will be the first 21.5-inch iMac to feature a 4K Retina display. As of now, they are fitted with 1080p resolution displays. Additionally, at this resolution, the pixel density of the iMac will be similar to that of the 27-inch iMac with 5K (5120x2880px) resolution, launched last year. Additionally, Apple is rumoured to be working on a new mouse called Magic Mouse 2, and a new Bluetooth keyboard. The new mouse is expected to come with Force Touch integration. On the other hand, improved battery life is the prime improvement expected out of the new keyboard. There is no information on whether the new accessories will be launched alongside the 4K iMac.
The launch of the new iMac, if true, will succeed Apple's massive event, where the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, Apple Watch, iPad Pro, and Apple TV were all launched last month at an event in San Francisco. In India, the new iPhones are slated for an October 16 launch. As for their prices, Flipkart listed the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus for starting prices of Rs. 64,836 and Rs. 74,117, respectively.
