Apple to debut a conservative TV slate in 2019 sans any violence, profanity or nudity
Apple is said to be investing as much as $1 Billion for the production of original TV Shows, but don’t expect any Game of Thrones-style content from the Cupertino tech giant.
Apple is taking its first steps into an industry dominated by the likes of Netflix, Hulu and Amazon – the streaming industry. The tech behemoth is said to be investing $1 Billion for the production of original TV Shows and films, one eighth of what Netflix has set aside for original content this year.
The company’s “small” TV slate consisting of original shows is set to debut in 2019 as per a new report, but don’t expect GoT or Westworld-style shows from Apple. The Cupertino company is reportedly taking a very conservative stance to streaming and will not release any shows with violence, profanity or nudity. Apparently, Apple doesn't want “kids catching a stray nipple” as reported by Bloomberg. The company is said to be turning down show pitches with any risque content, including an 8-part series produced by Gravity filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón starring Casey Affleck.
Apple is planning to make its TV shows available across all its devices and not just to those who subscribe to Apple Music. The company will most probably do this through its TV app. Currently, Apple runs shows like Carpool Karaoke and Planet Of The Apps on Apple Music.
The Bloomberg report goes on to states that Apple’s conservative policies led to the delay of Carpool Karaoke, which was supposed to debut in April this year. The show finally landed on Apple Music in August, after CEO Tim Cook ordered cuts to take out “foul language and references to vaginal hygiene." For its 2019 slate, Apple reportedly wants to focus on comedies and emotional dramas.
If the report is to be believed, Apple’s stringent, conservative content rules may not sit well with consumers, especially since this is unchartered territory for the tech major.
