Apple secures patent for advanced ‘security camera’ with facial recognition and bodyprint technology

Apple has obtained a patent for a new innovative security camera technology that can identify people based on facial recognition and physical characteristics. The patent, published by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), describes a system that uses traditional facial recognition along with a new “bodyprint” feature to accurately identify people based on their faces and physical characteristics.

As per the reports citing the patent documents, Apple has described it as a security camera that not only uses facial recognition but also saves information including a person’s physical traits such as torso or the clothing they wear. This innovative technology will allow the system to identify the individuals even if their face is not visible. 

Furthermore, the report stated that the camera will be able to identify a person based on their bodyprint, which is an analysis of their body shape, posture, or any other distinguishing characteristics such as the style of clothing they are wearing.

According to reports, Apple’s security camera will continuously capture images of people who come into its range and store the data temporarily. However, the security camera will use deep learning models to identify potential matches. The system will then notify the user of any identified individuals and allow them to view a live feed from the camera via iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. 

The patent news comes as Apple is reportedly exploring the smart home market. Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claimed that Apple is developing a privacy-focused home camera, as well as other smart home devices. It is also possible that Apple will release a smart home hub designed to control various devices in the home while integrating Apple services like FaceTime.

If the reports are true, Apple’s new security camera may face questions about precision and accuracy. It’s worth noting that Apple had not acknowledged anything at the time of writing this article.
