Apple announced today that it would release iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 and a Release Candidate build of macOS Ventura on October 24. The RC is the final version of the system software in a beta development cycle, and these builds (20B79) may match the final versions that will be released for the users next week.
iPadOS 16.1 update features a Stage Manager, a new multitasking interface for some iPad models. In addition, it includes undo message sending, message editing, undo mail sending, email scheduling, iCloud Shared Photo Library, and many more minor features. Further, iOS 16.1 for iPhone supports iCloud Shared Photo Library and Live Activities on the lock screen, bringing the battery percentage indicator to additional iPhone models. Finally, the iOS 16.1 update will also likely resolve some bugs and crash problems experienced by some users.
Users enrolled in public or developer beta testing programs for iOS or iPadOS can find the iOS 16.1 RC and iPadOS 16.1 RC builds available to download now from Settings > General > Software Update. The most stable builds of iOS currently available to users are iOS 16.0.3 for iPhone and iPadOS 15.7 for iPad.
