Google has been everyone’s go-to search engine. Even those who use Apple products usually use Google as Apple has made it their default search engine for all Apple devices, owing to their deal. But what if I told you that Apple could be working on its own in-house search engine? Reports suggest that the California-based tech giant could be working on making its web search capabilities better in order to negotiate better with Google.

Let’s first understand the search engine deal between Google and Apple. For the first time, Apple used Google as its default search engine on Safari in 2002. The deal has continued since, with many revisions obviously. Thanks to this deal, Apple annually makes around $8 billion.
Now, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurnman, Apple is indeed improving its search engine’s skills. They hope to use this improved in-house search engine to negotiate their deal with Google. On top of that, they are even working on the next generation of their search engine for the Apple apps. This project is being led by Google executive and machine learning and AI head at Apple John Giannandrea, and is code-named ‘Pegasus’. With Pegasus, they are planning to offer better results. Currently, it is available on limited Apple apps and will later be up on the Apple Store too.
If the company removes Google as its default server then it could earn big, and the revenue could match up to the levels of Apple Watch.

He said, “There wasn’t a viable alternative to Google at that time. And going with any other was never something that we ever truly considered”. Technically, he said Apple was the best.
Now let’s see where this development heads.
