For almost half of 2024, Apple has been talking about Apple Intelligence. And after a really long wait, Apple Intelligence has started to roll out, but in phases. We saw the first set of Apple Intelligence features were rolled out with the recent iOS 18.1 update. One of the highlights from the suite of Apple Intelligence features that Apple announced during WWDC 2024 was ChatGPT-powered Siri that’s also going to roll out on December 2 with the iOS 18.2 update. But there’s a catch, read on to find out.
Apple will release the ChatGPT-powered Siri for eligible iPhones on December 2. This update will integrate ChatGPT’s advanced language model, adding more conversational abilities and functionality to Apple’s virtual assistant. But you will only be able to use a limited set of features for free.
To be able to use Siri’s full potential, users can subscribe to ChatGPT Plus for $20 (Rs 1,950) per month. And that’s the catch I was talking about. Even though this is not something that was kept hidden, it wasn’t spoken about much. So if you pay the extra bucks, you will be able to access enhanced features, including advanced language generation, image creation, and document analysis.
According to a 9to5Mac report, users will soon have the option to subscribe directly via the iPhone’s Settings app. If you wish to subscribe you can go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > ChatGPT > Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus.
If you don’t wish to pay more, you will still be able to use ChatGPT-powered Siri, but won’t have access to the latest GPT models or more advanced functions like web browsing and image generation.
Apple Intelligence is yet to roll out in India and will roll out in the early months of 2025.
