HIGHLIGHTS

iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air may feature a 120Hz ProMotion display for smoother user experience.

It will enhance the user experience and add new features.

It may also increase the prices of vanilla trims.

Apple iPhone 17 series launch is almost nine months away and the rumours are already out. After the design changes, the iPhone 17 series is expected to come with a big display upgrade. As per the reports, Apple may finally offer 120Hz refresh rate with iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air (possible replacement for the Plus variant).

According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 17 will have a faster refresh rate. For those unfamiliar, the company currently offers 60Hz panels with vanilla trims and 120Hz refresh rate panels with Pro variants. Interestingly, the tipster did not specify the exact refresh rate specs for the iPhone 17.

Will the iPhone 17 get ProMotion Display?

Now that Pro variants have the ProMotion display, it’s possible that Apple will include it in iPhone 17. It will provide a more seamless and enhanced user experience, as well as always-on functionality. However, the iPhone 17 will require LTPO panels. If so, the vanilla trims will have similar displays to the Pro variants.

Previously, analyst Ross Young predicted the ProMotion display for the iPhone 17 and 17 Air. However, as of the writing of this article, Apple had not confirmed any of the development. When Apple introduces the iPhone 17 series, we’ll have a better idea of what to expect. We expect Apple to release the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.

Yet, if these leaks are true, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will most likely have significant price increases due to the ProMotion display. For a while now, Apple has not changed the vanilla trim prices. In India, the new vanilla trim is usually priced at Rs 79,900.
