The upcoming MacBook Pro was believed to be equipped with an M2 Extreme Chip.
Apple has done away with the chip as it was too costly to manufacture.
Now, the laptop may have an M2 Ultra processor with a 24-core CPU and a 72-core GPU.
Apple’s iMac Pro is yet to receive an Apple Silicon upgrade, making it the only pending product in the brand’s lineup. Rumours indicate that the upcoming first-generation Mac Pro, which is going to be powered by the Apple Silicon chip, may feature the M2 Ultra chip as opposed to the M2 Extreme chip.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the M2 Extreme has been scrapped due to manufacturing issues as well as higher costs. This chip was to offer a 48-core CPU with up to 152-core GPU, and this would have made it the most powerful processor offered by the brand.
Mac Pro M2 Extreme Chip cost
It is believed that Apple’s Mac Pro with the M2 Extreme processor could have been priced at around $10,000 (which is roughly ₹8,27,313) For context, the Intel-based Mac Pro base model, costs $5,999 (which is roughly ₹4,96,486). Apple has gone ahead with the M2 Ultra processor which will offer a 24-core CPU and a 72-core GPU. It will also offer 192GB of unified memory.
This MacBook is speculated to launch in 2023, although there are no concrete indications from the brand about the same.
