Apple likely to launch new AirTag next year and these can be the improvements
The new AirTag is codenamed B589 and it’s “progressed in manufacturing tests.
Apple is planning to introduce sound alerts that will let a person know there’s an unknown AirTag in their vicinity.
Next generation AirTag will look exactly the same as the previous generation.
It’s been two years since Apple first launched the AirTag and seems like we might be up for an upgrade next year. Even though there is little to change or improve with the tiny location tracker, Bloomberg reports that Apple can drop a new model as early as next year with some minor upgrades. As per the report, the new AirTag can be launched as early as mid-2025.
The new model is codenamed B589 and it’s “progressed in manufacturing tests.” This clears that the launch of AirTag might not be that far. The three major improvements expected in the new AirTag are –
- Better range
- Improved wireless chip
- Improved privacy
Out of these three, the first two are on the expected lines. The learnings from first generation and better chip would ensure that the new AirTag will have improved range and accuracy. That’s the least you can expect on a location tracker.
However, it’s the third where real effort has been put. While the AirTag has become very popular among Apple users and is often used by people while traveling, there have been some concerns over the misuse of the device as well. Multiple users claimed that they were being stalked using the AirTag. A person was even handed a prison sentence after he was found to have planted the tracking device in his former girlfriend’s car.

Keeping this in mind, Apple is planning to introduce sound alerts that will let a person know there’s an unknown AirTag in their vicinity. At the same time, it is also looking to make the AirTag tamper-free, which means it will be difficult than before to remove the speaker.
Apart from this, the next generation model of the AirTag will look exactly the same as the previous generation. However, don’t be surprised if Apple makes it more compact by reducing the size. It should also get all the other features of the previous generation model.
