Apple seems to be making a lot of moves into various categories lately. Previous reports revealed that the Cupertino-based tech giant was entering into the smart home space. We have more news coming in that strengthens these rumours. The word on the block is that Apple is gearing up to enter the smart home display market with an AI-powered, wall-mounted tablet. The tablet goes by the codename of J490 and is currently under work.
J490 will serve as a centralised smart hub for home automation. With this smart hub, users will be able to control appliances, manage video calls, and interact with apps. For this, it will use advanced AI functions. It can obviously use Apple Intelligence and use Siri’s voice capabilities for seamless and hands-free navigation. It will offer both touch and voice controls. This was reported by Apple analyst Mark Gurman.
It can carry a 6-inch screen with built-in speakers, a camera, and a compact design. It can be mounted on walls or placed on counters. It can also carry the Apple Watch interface and the iPhone’s StandBy mode. Users will be able to control smart home devices through Apple’s HomeKit, from lights and thermostats to security systems and door locks.
The smart hub can also carry many pre-installed apps, users will be able to access music, calendars, news, and FaceTime. It can be priced at around $1,000. And a premium version can even have a robotic limb for screen adjustments.
The new device can drop as early as March next year. As per reports, Apple CEO Tim Cook is prioritising this product and is bringing it out as a competitive alternative to Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. And as it goes with Apple, this AI-powered hub will also align with Apple’s ecosystem which will attract a lot of Apple fans.
