Apple is setting its sights on a new frontier: robotics. With its extensive range of existing devices, from iPhones to the Vision Pro headset, Apple is reportedly exploring how robotics could introduce a fresh dimension to its product lineup and potentially transform our homes.

After the disappointing end of its self-driving car project, Apple has turned its attention to robotics. Although the car project didn’t pan out, it inspired a new line of thinking about how robotic technology could enhance everyday life. Apple is experimenting with robotics to solve common problems and make technology more accessible in various scenarios.

The first product in this robotics venture is expected to be a tabletop device, codenamed J595, according to a report by Bloomberg. This gadget will combine a large, iPad-like screen with cameras and a robotic base that can move.

Beyond this initial device, Apple is also looking at developing mobile robots and possibly even humanoid robots in the future. The idea is to create devices that can perform tasks around the home, such as carrying items or assisting with chores, although these concepts are still in the early planning stages.

Apple’s push into robotics is also expected to benefit from advances in artificial intelligence (AI). AI will likely be central to these robots, helping them understand and interact with their environment more effectively. Apple’s expertise in sensors and hardware might also play a crucial role.

Despite the exciting possibilities, there are challenges ahead. Robotics technology is currently expensive and complex, and many consumers might not be ready for fully autonomous robots just yet. Apple will need significant investment and talent to make these ideas a reality. If successful, robotics could become a key part of Apple’s future strategy to revolutionise smart home technology.
