Google is now working on a new feature for Android 16 which will help Instagram, Snapchat, and other app users to capture high-quality photos and videos in low light. According to the Android Developers blog post, the next-generation Android OS will introduce a new APU that will allow social media applications to automatically detect if the device is in low-light surroundings and activate the Night Mode. This will optimise the camera set to deliver a brighter and more clear image with less noise.
Instagram already supports a similar feature on select devices including the Pixel 6 and up, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6. When the application detects low lights in the surroundings, the moon icon automatically appears on the screen showing that the users should opt for Night Mode.
Now Android 16 is expected to expand this functionality to more devices and applications in order to make it easier for social media users to take pro-quality photos in low-light conditions without needing to manually adjust the camera settings.
In terms of specifics, the new feature will be a part of Android’s Camera Extension framework, ensuring that the application can take full advantage of each device’s unique camera capabilities including the Portrait Bokeh and Face Retouching.
So, if you are an Android user, you will soon be able to capture some beautiful low-light images, which you will be able to do after Android 16 makes its debut. While Google has not offered any specific release date, it is expected that it will be arriving early this year. According to the reports, Google may be rolling out Android 16 in June next year.
Along with this, the Android 16 will be bringing new features that will help users manage their notifications in a much smarter way. According to reports, Google is also adding Notification Categories and Notification cool down which will help users manage their notifications in a smart manner.
