The alert was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the government’s official PIB Fact Check handle, warning users about a fake email claiming to be from the Indian Intelligence Bureau. The email accuses recipients of using their internet for inappropriate activities and even threatens legal action. But don’t fall for it as it’s a scam.

The email alleges that your internet traffic has been flagged by the Indian Intelligence Bureau and that a court order has been issued against you. It accuses recipients of using their internet to watch pornography and states that the Intelligence Bureau, in partnership with a cybercrime police unit, has advanced forensic tools to track such activities. The email is signed off by a so-called “Prosecutor,” Prashant Gautam.
