After a lot of anticipation and excitement, Google finally hosted its I/O conference last night. CEO Sundar Pichai initiated the event and it lasted for over 2 hours and a lot of announcements were made. The first thing made very clear, and something we were all aware of, was that this year’s I/O is all about AI. A lot of AI announcements were made during the keynote, the word itself was repeated a good 121 times. Let me quickly share 5 cool AI announcements that were made last night.

Google had previously incorporated some AI features with Google Search, but now it has improved that even more with Gemini. It can now give better responses to users by curating sources from multiple sites. You will not have to spend time in research and can easily get everything summed up with AI Overviews. You can even plan things such as meal plans on Google Search. This will roll out in the US first.

Gemini AI for Google Workspace

The search engine giant has also launched Gemini for Google Workspace. Google will incorporate Gemini as a side panel in Workspace apps, helping make work more efficient. It will use the Gemini 1.5 Pro model for giving responses. With this, you can also coordinate work more efficiently across different Workspace apps. Even the Gmail app will have built-in AI features thanks to Gemini, such as summing up emails, etc.

Ask Photos

Google Photos now has Gemini as well. Google has introduced Ask Photos which helps you organise your photos better. You can Ask Photos to fetch specific pictures from your gallery, assign tasks such as creating holiday highlights, and even ask questions and it will give answers by analysing information from your pictures. The feature will roll out soon.

AI teammate

Google also introduced AI Teammate for Workspace. It is like a mock teammate in a multi-user space. This teammate will be a part of your groups and chard on Workspace and can analyse chat groups, emails, and documents, and fetch you the right information saving you time. It can even perform specific tasks that you want it to do. So basically your own AI intern.

Imagen 3 & Veo

Lastly, Google also announced two cool things, Imagen 3 and Veo. Imagen 3 is the most advanced text-to-image model to date. It also comes with an improved AI-rendered text within images. If what Google claims turns out to be true, it can create photorealistic images and this will be like a game changer.

Lastly, Veo. It is also an AI model for text-to-video AI content. It can generate videos in 1080p high-quality and can make videos over a minute. You can use different cinematic styles too to create videos. This tool is pretty impressive as it has a good understanding of natural language and visual semantics. This feature is currently limited to private previews but Google plans to bring it along YouTube Shorts and other apps in the future.
