AI for iPhones finally! iOS 18 expected to bring these AI features
It is expected that Apple will release the iOS 18 update during WWDC 2024.
The 'Safari browsing assistant' can use AI technology to enhance the browsing experience on Safari.
The other feature is called 'Encrypted visual search'.
All the major tech companies have set their feet in the AI space and are constantly trying to outperform others. There has been silence for a while from Apple on this, and it is running quite behind. However, the word on the street is that Apple could soon start rolling out iPhone AI features. Apple will host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 on June 10 and it is expected that it will release the iOS 18 update during this event. This iOS 18 update will offer new AI features. We now have a slight hint of what these features could be.
Developer Nicolás Álvarez got some insights from Apple’s backend code and found out what Apple could launch with the new update. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that Apple can unveil two features.

What AI features will iOS 18 bring?
Safari Browsing Assistant
The first one is tentatively called the ‘Safari browsing assistant’. From the name, it appears that it can use AI technology to enhance the browsing experience on Safari. This could really improve the browsing experience.

Encrypted Visual Search
The other feature is called ‘Encrypted visual search’. This is somewhat similar to the existing Visual Look Up feature in Spotlight. However, this will offer improved security and functionality. According to Álvarez, both features will use an Oblivious HTTP gateway, which is a privacy protocol that helps keep anonymity online.
Apple, however, has not confirmed any of these claims. And if we look at the company’s behaviour, I am sure it will keep its lips tightly sealed. We have to wait for some weeks now till WWDC 2024 to get any news from Apple. But the entire tech community is pretty confident that AI will take centre stage this time.
