This is not the first time that Xiaomi has stepped into the chipset game but this time it has bigger plans.

Xiaomi is reportedly planning to release its own chipset by 2025.

Xiaomi's initiative is seen as a strategic step toward self-reliance in key technologies.

After Google and Samsung, Xiaomi can be the next big smartphone maker to build its own chipsets. A recent Bloomberg report has revealed that the Chinese smartphone maker is reportedly working on an in-house chipset and can release it in 2025. This is not the first time that Xiaomi has stepped into the chipset game but this time it has bigger plans.

Not only Xiaomi is reportedly planning to release its own chipset by 2025 but it can also begin mass production in the same year, as revealed by the report. This move by Xiaomi also aligns with other Chinese tech brands. The entire plan is to reduce the dependence on foreign chipmakers Qualcomm and Mediatek which dominate the market.

As you must be aware, the relations between the US and China are not the best, and hence such moves. Xiaomi’s initiative is seen as a strategic step toward self-reliance in key technologies. Well, we don’t know much about what Xiaomi has in store but like I said this isn’t the first time that the company is stepping into the chipset game. In 2017, Xiaomi launched the Mi 5c smartphone, powered by its in-house Surge S1 processor but it was not a commercial success.

If Xiaomi becomes successful in developing its own processors, it will be able to achieve tighter hardware-software integration, similar to that of Apple. This would better mean optimisation for its devices, cost savings, and enhanced control over its product ecosystem.

Now even though it sounds brilliant on paper, developing and bringing out a chip is not that easy. Developing a chip is highly complex and resource-intensive, where even established players like Intel and NVIDIA encounter difficulties. Only time will tell if Xiaomi will be able to achieve a breakthrough or not.
