Adobe has released a mid-cycle update to its eLearning Suite, a collection of tools used to make educational content for academic use and professional training. Updates to the suite, now in version 2.5, focus on creating more streamlined workflows, expanding output options, and improving the software’s overall usability.
The software is used by instructional designer and developers who create online or technologically delivered learning or training content. An example of e-learning content that many corporate employees would find familiar is work safety and hazard training or sexual harassment training, which might blend videos, narrative storytelling, reading, and quizzes, all facilitated through a computer. E-learning is now used widely across higher education, government, corporations, and non-profit organizations.
In another new change, Adobe is letting customers license the eLearning Suite by purchasing a monthly or yearly subscription, as it did with its Creative Suite (version 5.5) a few weeks ago. The month-to-month plan even allows customers to put their subscriptions on hold and restart them as needed.
eLearning Suite 2.5 now includes Adobe Audition CS5.5, a robust replacement for Adobe Soundbooth that enables multitrack audio editing on PCs and Macs. Other updates to the software now let users export audio for an entire Captivate 5.5 project with one click, extensively edit it in Audition CS5.5 and bring it back to Captivate while maintaining slide association.
On the visual side of things, users can now create PDF-based e-learning content using Acrobat X Pro and publish it to any number of leading learning management systems.
New changes to Adobe Captivate 5.5 include being able to publish content in MP4 format, which can play on iOS and Android-based devices, create a video project using preset YouTube dimensions, draft quizzes with new templates, and more.
Adobe eLearning Suite 2.5 and Adobe Captivate 5.5 are available through Adobe authorized resellers and the Adobe Store starting today. The estimated street price for Adobe eLearning Suite 2.5 is $1,799 and $799 for Adobe Captivate 5.5. Upgrade and education pricing for both products is also available.
Subscription pricing for eLearning Suite 2.5 starts at $89 per month for the one-year plan and $135 per month for the month-to-month plan; subscription pricing for Adobe Captivate 5.5 is $39 per month and $59 per month, respectively.
