Acer has unveiled its latest Windows Mixed Reality headset in India. The headset was announced at the finale event of the company’s Predator league in Bangalore. Acer is the first company to announce its Windows MR headset for the Indian market which offers a blended AR and VR experience, but its price has not been announced yet.
The Acer Windows Mixed Reality headset also comes with wireless motion controllers and works “right out of the box” with Windows Mixed Reality-ready PCs. It features two front-hinged 2.89-inch LCD displays with a 95-degree field of view. The headset sports a 2880 x 1440p resolution with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. It connects to a PC using an HDMI 2.0 connector, while it uses a USB 3.0 connector for downloading data. In terms of build and design, the MR headset is made with double-padded, sweat-resistant materials and sports adjustable headbands.
The Mixed Reality headset uses 6-Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) positional tracking and comes with a 13-foot cable for allowing a wider range of movement. It allows users to interact directly with their environment, and software using gesture, gaze and voice. The headset can also be controlled using traditional inputs like mice, keyboards and controllers.
Other than Acer, Microsoft and Samsung also offer their respective Mixed Reality (MR) headsets. Microsoft says its Hololens MR headset offers a simple set-up with easy inside-out position tracking, without the need for any external sensors. It also supports 6 degrees of freedom motion control accuracy.
Samsung also launched its HMD Odyssey headset which is based on Microsoft's Windows Mixed Reality platform back in October. The headset features dual 3.5-inch AMOLED displays with 1400 x 1600 resolution and a 110-degree field of view and is priced at $499 (Rs 32,123 approx).
